Höegh Autoliners and China Merchants sign for six more Aurora class PCTCs

Ro-roHöegh Autoliners and China Merchants Group (CMG) have formally signed the contract for six additional Aurora class pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). The deal takes Höegh Autoliners’ flagship newbuilding programme to 18 vessels. The contract was signed in Naples on 22 September at a meeting attended by CMG chairman Miao Jianmin, Höegh Autoliners chair Leif O. Høegh and CEO Andreas Enger.

Stena Line orders two new hybrid ferries for the Sweden - Denmark route

FerryStena Line is renewing its fleet and has placed an order for two new hybrid E-Flexer ferries, scheduled to enter service in 2030. The two RoPax ferries will have capacity for 1,500 passengers and 2,750 lane metres of freight. Designed as day ferries, they are intended to operate on the Gothenburg–Frederikshavn route. The vessels will feature the latest hybrid propulsion technology, allowing them to operate on both conventional fuel and electricity. They will also be prepared for conversion to 100 percent electric operation once the necessary charging infrastructure is in place.

Technical failure brings Portsmouth–Le Havre route to an early end

FerryBrittany Ferries has ended its Portsmouth–Le Havre service earlier than planned. The French ferry operator announced in June that the route would close at the end of September.

Drop in passengers between Huelva and the Canary Islands

FerryThe Huelva-Canary Islands ferry service carried 29,366 passengers in the first eight months of 2026, down 13.9% from 34,088 a year earlier, according to statistic made by Port of Huelva and reported by Huelva Información. Vehicle traffic fell 10.3% to 18,157.

Go Nordic Cruiseline adds 14 extra sailings for the ski season

FerryGo Nordic Cruiseline is adding 14 extra sailings in January after rescheduling part of a planned dry-docking, the company has announced.
The decision follows what the operator describes as a 14 per cent increase in bookings from Denmark for January and February 2027, measured against the same point in the booking cycle for the corresponding period a year earlier.

Ro-roThe Vlissingen – Dagenham (Thames) RoRo connection has been taken over from CLdN by Polaris Autoliners. The 20,209 GT POLARIS OSLO, a 2,000 CEU feeder car carrier built in 2010, equipped with both a normal stern ramp and a quarter ramp and recently purchased by Polaris from GCC, is operating the route alongside the chartered 3,663 lanem Flensburger class RoRo LISTA.

Finnlines day cruise traffic up 23 per cent as FINNSIRIUS marks three years on the Sweden–Finland route

FerryFinnlines carried 23 per cent more day cruise passengers on its Långnäs–Naantali route this summer. The rise came as its hybrid RoPax FINNSIRIUS completed three years on the Kapellskär–Långnäs–Naantali route on 15 September. Since her maiden voyage in 2023, Finnlines says the vessel has helped more than double passenger volumes on the route. Over the same period, she has also improved energy efficiency and emissions performance.

FerryDespite the prospect of GBP 6 million in funding from the Scottish and UK governments to re-establish a RoPax route between Scotland and continental Europe, the plans have reportedly now been abandoned for good.

MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA enters service with Yokohama maiden voyage

CruiseMitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) will put MITSUI OCEAN SAKURA into service on 19 September, when the ship sets out on its maiden voyage from Yokohama. The naming ceremony took place on 16 September at the Yokohama Shinko Pier Cruise Terminal. The ship was built as SEABOURN SOJOURN by T. Mariotti in Genoa in 2010 and sailed for Seabourn for 16 years. MOL announced the purchase in March 2025, and the ship's last Seabourn cruise ended in May 2026.
