FerryEuroafrica Shipping’s freight-oriented RoPax ferry GALILEUSZ returned to its Polish base port of Swinoujscie during the night leading into 1 September following a stay at Gryfia Shipyard in Szczecin. During the yard stay, the 1992-built GALILEUSZ, which has a capacity of 1,742 lane metres and accommodation for 125 drivers, was repainted in POLSCA Baltic Ferries’ colour scheme.

High-speedThe number of people missing after the 42.8-metre catamaran ferry FILO JET capsized and sank off Kyrenia (Girne) in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Sunday, 30 August 2026 has risen to 20, TRNC Prime Minister Unal Ustel said on Monday evening. The death toll stands at eight. Of the 267 people on board — 259 passengers and eight crew — 239 were brought ashore alive, after two people initially counted among the rescued were found to be unaccounted for.

First of three new Torghatten ferries from Özata Shipyard on sea trials

FerryÖzata Shipyard in Türkiye has begun sea trials of newbuilding no. 101 in the waters off Yalova in the Istanbul region. Hull no. 101, TBN: MISTERØY, is the first of three (2+1) newbuildings ordered from the yard by Norway’s Torghatten Nord in 2024.

FerryPeter Hove Hildebrandt will take up the position as CEO of Go Nordic Cruiseline on 1 September. The company operates the two cruise ferries NORDIC PEARL and NORDIC CROWN between Copenhagen and Oslo. He succeeds Kim Heiberg, who has worked on the route for almost 30 years. DFDS sold the service to Gotlandsbolaget in 2024.

End of Common Travel Area affects ferry passengers crossing the Irish Sea

FerryFrom Monday 28 September, all ferry passengers travelling between Ireland and the UK will be required to present a valid passport when crossing the Irish Sea between the two countries and thus passing through a national border. In practice, this includes both Stena Line’s and Irish Ferries’ routes between the two countries. Previously, other forms of valid photo identification were sufficient.
