Evaluation of fourth Gozo Channel ferry tender nears completion
FerryThe evaluation of the tender for a fourth Gozo Channel ferry, which will replace NIKOLAOS, is nearing completion, Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri said at a press conference on Malta's 2027 budget on 5 November. He also said that a pre-qualification questionnaire would be issued in the last quarter of this year as part of preparations to build new ships for Gozo Channel.
The budget allocates EUR 141 million to Gozo, 15.7% more than in 2026, including spending on ferry services and port facilities. From next year, Maltese and Gozitan passengers with a pass will travel free on Gozo Channel, while fares for visitors will be raised.
Gozo Channel's own fleet consists of TA PINU, GAUDOS and MALITA, built by Malta Shipbuilding in 2000–2002.
