More new cars and trailers passing through Gothenburg
PortNew cars contributed to one of the strongest growth rates in the Port of Gothenburg during in the period January to September 2026. Car handling increased by 14%.
A total of 197,000 new cars passed through the Port of Gothenburg, compared with 172,000 in the same period in 2025. Both imports and exports increased, with imports rising by 29% and exports by 10%.
Looking on the shortsea part of the RoRo activities, Port of Gothenburg handled 405,000 RoRo units during the first three quarters of the year, an increase of 2% compared with the same period in 2025. Both imports and exports contributed to the growth. This traffic includes truck trailers and connects Gothenburg with logistics hubs in northern and central Europe and the UK through frequent sailings, operated by DFDS and CLdN.
Passenger traffic remained largely unchanged, with approximately 1.14 million passengers during January–September. Cruise calls, however, fell from 55 to 40. Fewer cruise calls therefore coincided with a continued stable overall passenger volume. Stena Line is the only RoPax operator serving the port. The shipping company operates two routes: one to Kiel and one to Frederikshavn.
