Royal Caribbean orders two new cruise ships from Meyer Turku
CruiseMeyer Turku has received yet another order order for two new cruise ships, filling their order books all the way to 2024.
The two cruise ships ordered by Royal Caribbean goes under the project name "Icon" and will each become around 200.000 GT, with delivery dates set at 2022 and 2024. The ships will be powered by LNG and use a number of innovations such as an application of fuel cells for power generation.
Richard Fain, chairman and chief executive officer of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd says; "With Icon class, we begin the journey to take the smoke out of our smokestacks. We are dedicated to innovation, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility, and Icon gives us the opportunity to deliver against all three of these pillars."

Our common aim is to develop fuel cells to a level that allows their usage in a significant application to power the ship's hotel functions."
