Royal Caribbean takes delivery of LEGEND OF THE SEAS from Meyer Turku
CruiseRoyal Caribbean has officially taken delivery of LEGEND OF THE SEAS, the third Icon Class ship built at Meyer Turku's Turku shipyard in Finland. The handover ceremony was attended by Royal Caribbean Group Chairman and CEO Jason Liberty, President and CEO Michael Bayley, and Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm.
LEGEND OF THE SEAS will undertake her maiden voyage from Turku to Cádiz before commencing 7-night Western Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona and Rome from July 2026. She will relocate to the Caribbean in November, offering 6-night Western Caribbean and 8-night Southern Caribbean itineraries.
The 144,000 GT Icon Class vessel is the fourth Royal Caribbean ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) and features environmental technologies including shore power connections and waste heat recovery systems, supporting the Group's target of delivering a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.
The delivery is part of Royal Caribbean's long-term shipbuilding agreement with Meyer Turku, which secures capacity through 2036. The agreement includes CHAMPION OF THE SEAS (2028), the sixth Icon Class vessel (2029), and the seventh (2030). HERO OF THE SEAS, the fourth Icon Class ship, is scheduled for 2027.
