Second of two ISSG newbuildings nears delivery voyage to Isles of Scilly
FerryThe Isles of Scilly Steamship Group (ISSG) has completed and approved the results of the final sea trial of the combined passenger and cargo vessel SCILLONIAN IV, built at Piriou’s shipyard in Vietnam.
The 2,200 GT conventional vessel, with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, will replace the 1977-built SCILLONIAN III on the operator’s route between the Isles of Scilly and Penzance on the Cornish mainland.
SCILLONIAN IV forms part of a newbuilding programme to completely renew the Isles of Scilly’s lifeline to the mainland. Earlier this year, ISSG took delivery of the new cargo vessel MENAWETHAN from the same yard, with the route set to be fully upgraded by March 2027. MENAWETHAN will replace the 1981-built GRY MARITHA.
ISSG says SCILLONIAN IV is expected to depart Ho Chi Minh City on 31 October for its approximately two-month delivery voyage. In its announcement, the company states that it has “technically accepted the vessel”, rather than taken delivery.
