MAXINE chartered by Smyril Line
Ro-roFaroese RoRo operator Smyril Line has chartered CLdN's 21,005 GT MAXINE, which has a capacity of 2,475 lane metres. She will maintain the Rotterdam–Faroe Islands–Iceland service until Smyril Line's two newbuildings arrive from China. Smyril Line uses the CLdN-owned Distriport terminal in Rotterdam's Brittanniëhaven.
The 183.4 m-long vessel is the largest single-screw vessel ever to enter the port of Þorlákshöfn in Iceland. Smyril Line has suffered a series of setbacks with its two newbuildings. First, the 29,891 GT AKRANES had a shaft generator failure during sea trials.
Then SKIPANES had an engine room fire shortly after leaving China on her maiden voyage. SKIPANES initially returned to Xiamen and is now at a Hong Kong shipyard, where the engine room is being cleaned and repaired. Meanwhile, AKRANES has completed her sea trials and will be delivered imminently.
