MARHABA SEAWAYS joins DFDS fleet
FerryDFDS has officially taken delivery of VOLCAN DE TAMASITE from Armas, following its acquisition of Armas's Strait of Gibraltar operations. Built at the Barreras shipyard in 2004, the vessel has been a reliable performer for Naviera Armas, initially on Canary Islands routes and latterly on the Algeciras–Tanger Med line.
The 17,343 GT RoPax is ideal for the route because her length of 143.0 m and beam of 24.2 m allow her to operate from the main passenger terminal in Algeciras. She has capacity for 1,500 day passengers plus 395 cars or 1,350 lane metres of freight on two decks.
She is powered by two Wärtsilä 8L46C main engines with a combined output of 16,800 kW, giving a reported maximum speed of 23 knots. The vessel will be rebranded and upgraded before entering DFDS service on the Algeciras–Tanger Med route, reportedly under the name MARHABA SEAWAYS.
