Stena Line to deploy two of its own RoRo vessels between Rotterdam and Harwich
Ro-roStena Line will deploy STENA HIBERNIA and STENA SCOTIA on its Rotterdam–Harwich freight route, replacing the chartered MISTRAL and THULELAND.
MISTRAL and THULELAND will be returned to their respective owners, Godby Shipping and Wallenius SOL, at the end of this year when their charter agreements expire.
This is reported by the Dutch media outlet Transport Online.
According to Stena Line, deploying its own vessels will increase operational flexibility across its network and reinforce its long-term commitment to the freight corridor between the United Kingdom and continental Europe.
Mark Mulder, Trade Director North Sea, said the move would support continued investment in reliability, capacity and service standards for freight customers. The changeover will follow the expiry of the charters to ensure a smooth transition.
The deployment forms part of Stena Line’s broader strategy to strengthen its North Sea freight network. Together with Associated British Ports, the company has invested more than GBP 200 million in a new freight ferry terminal at Immingham.
Stena Line operates two daily sailings between the Humber region and the Netherlands, serving a market where unaccompanied freight volumes have grown steadily in recent years. STENA HIBERNIA and STENA SCOTIA, both of which have been replaced by newbuilds in the Irish Sea, are sister vessels each with a 1,690 lane metre-capacity.
