GLEN SANNOX to receive new propellers
FerryCalMac Ferries’ ferry GLEN SANNOX, which is only just under one and a half years old and was delivered with more than six years’ delay from the shipyard Ferguson Marine Engineering, returned to service on 9 March on the Troon–Brodick route after a four-month shipyard stay.
The purpose of the stay at Cammell Laird in Birkenhead was, as previously reported by Shippax, to identify the cause of significant vibrations in the hull that have led to cracking, particularly when the ferry is operating astern. The solution will now be to replace the ferry’s two existing propellers.
According to a spokesperson from the shipyard speaking to Scottish media, this is expected to represent an additional cost of GBP 3.2 million. The expected delivery time for the new propellers is around six months.
The troubled newbuilding project involving GLEN SANNOX is now estimated to have exceeded its original budget by a factor of four. It has not been reported whether the findings regarding the cause will also mean that GLEN SANNOX’s yet-to-be-delivered sister ship, GLEN ROSA, will likewise require new propellers.
