Finnlines and Långnäs Port open new cruise terminal in Åland

FerryFinnlines and Långnäs Port inaugurated a new cruise terminal in Åland on Friday 8 May 2026, expanding capacity for passenger traffic on the Kapellskär–Långnäs–Nådendal route and streamlining the transfer between ship and shore.

The opening was attended by customers, partners, decision-makers and journalists. Finnlines was represented by President and CEO Thomas Doepel and Head of Passenger Services Marco Palmu, with Långnäs Port represented by Managing Director Ronny Eriksson.

"The atmosphere at the inauguration was excellent, and it was particularly pleasing to see how guests and the first passengers received the new terminal," said Mr Doepel. He pointed to what he described as significant growth potential for tourism in Åland and said Finnlines intended to help develop the region's accessibility and appeal alongside local operators.

The terminal sits directly adjacent to the quay, shortening the walk between vessel and building and accelerating boarding and disembarkation. It serves the Superstar-class vessels FINNSIRIUS and FINNCANOPUS, which operate the Kapellskär–Långnäs–Nådendal route between Sweden, Åland and mainland Finland. Passenger numbers on the line have risen sharply since the two newbuilds entered service.

"The new terminal brings travellers and ships closer together and makes the whole journey smoother," said Mr Palmu. "It is now easier to board and disembark, which makes travel more comfortable and more efficient."

The building stands roughly 16 metres tall with a floor area of approximately 500 square metres, and offers modern seating with direct access to the vessels.

Ronny Eriksson said passenger and vehicle volumes through Långnäs had grown substantially, with the port operating at full capacity daily. The development, he added, was of considerable importance to tourism in Åland.

The terminal forms part of Långnäs Port's longer-term development plan. The investment, of approximately EUR 3 million, is intended to strengthen regional tourism and reinforce Åland's position as a hub between Sweden and Finland.
