Electrification of HAMLET takes longer than expected
FerryÖresundslinjen’s ambition to have three battery-powered passenger ferries operational by Christmas needs adjusting. The ferry HAMLET is currently at the shipyard for conversion to battery propulsion, but is not yet fully ready to serve the Sound.
The work to refit the ferry HAMLET from diesel to electric propulsion has proved more extensive than planned. In addition to installing the battery packs themselves, for example, cabling and installations on the bridge have taken more time.
“It is a complex task to convert a vessel with diesel-electric propulsion, and we must conclude that the work has taken somewhat longer than estimated,” says Öresundslinjen’s COO, Jens Ole Hansen.
At present, he does not wish to specify a date for when HAMLET can return to service on the Öresund.
“Our focus is on completing the work as soon as possible, and our hope is that it is not too far off. In the meantime, our existing ferries are covering the needs for Christmas traffic,” says Jens Ole Hansen.
