Construction of BURSZTYN UNITY moving forward

FerryConstruction of BURSZTYN UNITY, sister ship to JANTAR UNITY, at Gdansk's Remontowa Shipyard is entering its final phase, with delivery to Unity Line expected in the last quarter of 2026.

JANTAR UNITY has been operating Baltic routes for over two months following its entry into service in January 2026, work on BURSZTYN UNITY has accelerated markedly in recent weeks. The shipowner conducted 322 inspections in January and 467 in February, aligning with the yard's daily schedules.

Pawel Pluto-Pradzynski, director of Unity Line, said: “The construction of BURSZTYN UNITY is now at a very advanced stage. The vessel is essentially fully fitted out, and we are now focusing on commissioning individual systems, verifying their correct operation, and carrying out intensive finishing work.”

The ship mirrors JANTAR UNITY in design, with no major changes planned—only minor adjustments agreed between the yard and the operator. Key milestones already completed include structural acceptances, tightness tests of fuel, oil, water, and fire-fighting installations, as well as dock and functional trials of the power plant, main engines, generators, and safety systems. Radio-navigation and navigational lighting equipment has been installed on the masts and is undergoing commissioning, while bridge control consoles are being activated.

Significant progress is also evident in the passenger areas: ceilings are being fitted in cabins, beds and furniture installed, carpets laid, and finishing touches applied. Recreational and social spaces—including TV lounges, mess rooms, galleys, and conference areas—are likewise being equipped.

“In a very short time the interiors are beginning to resemble those of Jantar Unity,” added Mr Pluto-Pradzynski. “Week by week the ship is taking on its final form, both technically and from the passenger perspective.”

Upcoming steps include further testing and inspections, with docking scheduled for August for hull antifouling renewal, topside painting, and application of the operator’s logo. Sea trials are set for September. Assuming the timetable holds, only cosmetic work will remain in October to bring the ferry to commercial readiness.

Like its predecessor, BURSZTYN UNITY will rank among the Baltic’s most modern passenger-cargo vessels. Measuring 195.6 metres in length and 32.2 metres in beam, the LNG-hybrid ferry will be powered by four gas-fuelled engines supported by a 1.71 MWh battery system. It features azimuth thrusters aft and bow thrusters for manoeuvrability in port.

Built to SOLAS standards, the vessel incorporates advanced ballast and propulsion systems to minimise rolling and enhance stability and passenger comfort in challenging weather. It will carry up to 400 passengers and 270 standard lorries, with a crew of 50. On-board facilities will include air-conditioning, lounges, cafeterias, bars, family zones, and comprehensive safety systems.
