Ferguson Marine chooses not to bid on the latest tender from CMAL

YardScotland’s publicly owned shipyard, Ferguson Marine, says it has been unable to bid to build a replacement for the LORD OF THE ISLES due to eligibility rules set by Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). The yard argues the criteria effectively exclude UK shipbuilders. The GMB union has urged CMAL - owned by the Scottish Government - to pause and review the process.

Electric Ship Factory Project launched to advance industrial scale shipbuilding

The Finnish shipbuilder Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) is at the head of a consortium which has launched The Electric Ship Factory (ESF) project as a two year initiative to accelerate the development and deployment of large fully electric RoPax and RoRo vessels for European shortsea routes. ESF focuses on industrializing shipbuilding through modular ship design, an automated construction process, and an integrated electric maritime corridor platform that supports efficient charging, operations, and lifecycle management.

Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö reports weakened first quarter

FinanceRederiaktiebolaget Eckerö posted a significantly weaker result for the first quarter of 2026, with turnover falling 11% to EUR 37.9 million (EUR 42.7 million in Q1 2025). The group recorded an operating loss of EUR 9.1 million, compared with a loss of EUR 2.8 million a year earlier, and a net loss for the period of EUR 7.5 million (EUR 2.1 million loss).

DFDS rejected by Guernsey for an offer for an inter-island RoPax service
