Stena Line holds steady while Stena RoRo delivers record results in 2025
FinanceStena AB’s newly released 2025 Annual Report shows its maritime divisions navigating a subdued European market with disciplined cost control and targeted investments in greener tonnage. Stena Line and Stena RoRo together demonstrated the group’s resilience even as overall revenues softened.
Stena Line, which accounts for 37% of group income with SEK 19,418 million in total revenue, reported operational EBITDA of SEK 3,719 million—broadly in line with 2024—while its operating result rose to SEK 1,541 million, helped by vessel sales and lower costs. Passenger and car volumes fell 2% amid hesitant consumer demand, but freight traffic held steady. The operator pressed ahead with fleet modernisation and network optimisation.
Hybrid NewMax-class vessels STENA CONNECTA and STENA FUTURA, equipped with rotor sails, entered service on the Belfast–Heysham route, lifting capacity on the Irish Sea. Stena Line also acquired Finland’s Wasaline, adding the advanced Umeå–Vaasa service with partial zero-emission capability, renewed key port agreements (including Frederikshavn to around 2080 and Gdynia for another decade), and divested older tonnage to sharpen focus. Digital optimisation and energy-efficiency programmes further supported margins in a low-margin, high-competition environment.
Stena RoRo posted its strongest year yet. Revenue reached SEK 2,363 million and operational EBITDA climbed to SEK 1,304 million (from SEK 1,069 million), with the operating result surging to SEK 1,571 million on high charter utilisation, newbuild deliveries and profitable RoPax sales. The division converted STENA FORETELLER and STENA FORERUNNER with extra decks (+30% capacity) and signed a contract for two C-Flexer vessels at China Merchants Industry, with options for four more.
