VILLE DE BORDEAUX Saves 1.7 Metric Tonnes of Fuel Daily with bound4blue’s eSAIL
Ro-robound4blue’s eSAIL wind propulsion technology has proven its value, with Bureau Veritas Solutions Marine & Offshore (BVS)-assessed fuel savings of 1.7 metric tonnes per day, and peaks up to 5.4 tonnes, on the Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) ro-ro VILLE DE BORDEAUX. The Airbus-chartered vessel, fitted with three 22-metre eSAILs® in 2024, achieved these savings without weather routing, aligning with LDA’s real-time fuel consumption data.
bound4blue claim eSAILs® deliver exceptional lift, offering greater propulsion per square meter than rigid sails, requiring six to seven times less surface area. This enables compact, lightweight installations ideal for retrofitting various vessel types. The sails perform effectively across diverse wind conditions, making them versatile for global shipping routes and high-speed vessels.
The technology offers a payback period of under five years and is suitable for tankers, bulkers, ro-ros, cruise ships, ferries, gas carriers, and general cargo vessels. Wind propulsion is uniquely rewarded under FuelEU Maritime, enhancing CII ratings and other regulatory benefits.
