SPACESHIP
The RoRo space rocket carrier SPACESHIP has been launched
Ro-roUS-based Bollinger Shipyards has launched the specialised RoRo newbuilding SPACESHIP, ordered by the United Launch Alliance (ULA). SPACESHIP is the most recent rocket carrier designed and built by Bollinger Shipyards.
The vessel follows in the footsteps of ROCKETSHIP, which has been transporting Atlas V components since 2011. SPACESHIP will be used to transport Atlas V and Vulcan rocket elements from the ULA factory in Decataur, Alabama., for launch at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida and Vanderberg Space Force Base in California.
Bollinger Shipyards was awarded the contract to build the SPACESHIP for ULA in late 2023. A keel-laying ceremony was held in October 2024. The dimensions of SPACESHIP are a length of 108,5 metres and a beam of 25 metres. The gross tonnage is 10,311. SPACESHIP’s propulsion is provided by three Schottel Rudder Propellers (SRP 460 LE). Schottel has furthermore provided two Transvers Thrusters (STT 1).
