The cost of KiwiRail’s Interislander fleet replacement programme and ports upgrade almost doubles

FerryThe dream of having a brand new fleet of large rail-enabled ro-pax ferries and port facilities to handle the two new giants is coming at a cost for New Zealand’s state-owned KiwiRail. The latest figures coming out of New Zealand make disturbing reading – the initial cost of New Zealand NZD 775 million made public in November 2018 has rocketed to nearly double that - NZD 1.76 billion.
