WWL confirms new contracts with CMS Jinling
Ro-roWallenius Wilhelmsen has revealed that four firm orders have been placed with China Merchants Shipbuilding Jinling, with the vessels to be built at its Yizheng yard in Jiangsu province. Deliveries will start in mid-2030. The contract also includes two options for four vessels each, for delivery in 2031 and 2032 respectively, potentially extending the series to 12 ships.
The 228.0m long, 38.0m wide PCTCs will be of a modified Shaper-class design with an intake of 9,900 CEU. It is understood that the vessels will be close sisters of the recently delivered 9,300 CEU, 87,688 GT ARCTIC TERN, but will feature 13 car decks instead of 12. The ships will also be equipped with LNG tanks and a dual-fuel Everllence B&W 7S60ME-C GI main engine.
Xavier Leroi, COO of Shipping Services at Wallenius Wilhelmsen, said: “Expanding our newbuilding programme with deliveries from 2030 reflects our confidence in the long-term fundamentals of the market. We are investing now to ensure we can continue to grow with our customers while further developing our leading position in deep-sea RoRo.”
Together with its current 14-ship newbuilding programme, Wallenius Wilhelmsen could take delivery of a total of 26 new PCTCs by 2032 if both options are exercised.
