RedWise deliver Fjord1's HORNELEN
FerryHORNELEN and her sister vessel LOSNA have been ordered by FJORD1 with Ada shipyard in Turkey. FJORD1 contracted global ship delivery specialist Redwise Maritime Services to deliver both vessels under own power, on their maiden voyage.
Fjord1 contracted Redwise for the delivery basis several criteria, amongst others of having their own permanently employed experienced crews, licensed in accordance with the Norwegian requirements, track record, including similar ferry deliveries to Norway of the vessels UTNE, YTTEROY and KVERNSUND, all of them of the same double ender type.
The HORNELEN is classed by DNV-GL ? 1A1 Car ferry B EO R3 (Nor) and equipped with two Caterpillar C32 main engines, providing 2 x 746 kW driving Rolls Royce Azipull 85 thrusters. The 74m vessel is fitted with visors forward and aft and can carry 199 passengers, 60 cars and five trucks.
Apart from the crew, including FJORD1 representatives, Redwise provided for the fuel, lubricants and filters for the voyage, together with the usual sets of updated charts, Nautical Publications etc. In addition Redwise added their satellite communication equipment sets and medical chest, handled ports clearances and the entire vessel management. Thus completing all requirements in close consultation with Owners Fjord,1 to ensure a safe deliver of the vessel under her own power from Turkey to Norway. All in compliance with the requirements of Fjord1, the Norwegian authorities and DNV-GL.
The whole project proves once again that with a sensible approach, good seamanship and respect for the forces of nature, coastal vessels can be sailed safe and economically beyond their normal area of operation to their new destination. Always provided that people appreciate that timing may be important, but the weather is to be the dominating factor that should be left to the discretion of the Master, responsible for the safety of the vessel and her crew.
