Operators launch common Kristiansand-Kirkenes freight corridor
Ro-roNor Lines Agder AS will launch a pilot project in February 2026 to extend sea-based cargo transport from Kristiansand to Kirkenes, with the aim of shifting more freight from road to sea in Norway. The route is a collaboration between Nor Lines Agder AS, Fjord Line, and Nor Lines.
This is reported by the Norwegian transport media outlet Logistikk.
General cargo and part loads from the Agder region are shipped by sea from Kristiansand to Bergen on Fjord Line’s service, then transhipped northbound to Kirkenes and intermediate ports via Hurtigruten and Havila Kystruten.
The solution covers a total of 35 ports and offers a continuous sea-based transport corridor from southern to northern Norway. The first departure took place from the Port of Kristiansand with a semi-trailer carrying 16 tonnes of general cargo across 20 consignments destined for Bergen and locations further north.
After arrival in Bergen, the cargo was handled by Nor Lines’ local operation and forwarded on existing coastal routes. The long-term ambition is to build sufficient volumes to establish two weekly departures from Kristiansand during 2026.
The service is positioned as competitive in both price and transit time and is part of Nor Lines’ door-to-door offering, including collection and delivery at customer-specified locations. Kristiansand Port highlights the project as an example of its strategic efforts to facilitate the transfer of freight from road to sea.
The port emphasizes the importance of supporting initiatives that improve transport efficiency, reduce emissions, increase predictability, and strengthen the competitiveness of businesses and cargo owners in the Agder region.
