Launching of GNV’s second of four new ro-paxes at GSI and keel-laying for the third
FerryGNV celebrated the launching of GNV ORION, the second of four ro-pax vessels currently under construction in China at the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) shipyard. The yard has also held the keel-laying ceremony for the third vessel, GNV VIRGO.
On this occasion, the company revealed its name, GNV ORION, dedicated to one of the most important and well-known constellations (Orion) in the sky, always clearly visible with its brilliant stars positioned near the celestial equator.
A delegation from the MSC Group took part in the ceremony together with representatives of the Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and RINA shipyards.
GNV ORION will be delivered to the owner in the summer of 2025 and will have a gross tonnage of approximately 52,000, a length of 218 metres, a width of 29.60 metres and will be able to reach a maximum speed of 25 knots. She will have 433 cabins and a carrying capacity of 1,785 passengers and 3,100 lane metres. The first ship, GNV POLARIS, will be delivered at the end of this year. The last two ships, GNV VIRGO and the not-yet named fourth unit, will be delivered in 2026 and will become LNG-powered.
