Lakeway Link expands fleet and launches daily departures between Södertälje and Gdynia
Ro-roLakeway Link is expanding its service with the addition of a second RoRo vessel, the 1.624 lanemetre 1999-built MISTRAL, which is a sister ship to Lakeway Link ‘s current vessel LAKEWAY EXPRESS. The vessel will join the Lakeway Link fleet under a time charter agreement in the beginning of November 2025, further strengthening the connection between Södertälje and Gdynia.
MISTRAL sails under the Finnish flag, has its home port in Mariehamn, and is owned by Godby Shipping on Åland. The addition of MISTRAL enables daily departures, Monday through Friday, in both directions between Södertälje and Gdynia - a step taken to meet increasing customer demand for more frequent departures, says Lakeway Link in a press release.
“We are very pleased to meet our customers’ requests for daily sailings between Gdynia and Södertälje. The addition of MISTRAL strengthens our service offering and allows us to provide reliable, efficient RoRo transport for both existing and new customers across the Baltic Sea,” says Göran Söderdahl, CEO of Lakeway Link.
The service is designed for roll-on/roll-off transport, including trailers, high and heavy cargo, and project shipments, providing a smooth and efficient alternative to road transport. With a crossing time of approximately 22 hours, it offers a fast and dependable link between central Sweden and Poland.
“This expansion represents an important step in our long-term strategy to develop sustainable short sea shipping. By increasing frequency and capacity, we can offer our customers greater flexibility while shifting more cargo from road to sea, reducing CO2 emissions and easing congestion on European highways,” says Göran Söderdahl, Lakeway Link.
