Geiranger Fjordservice Acquires One Of Three Electric Catamarans Available From Brødrene Aa
High-speedGeiranger Fjordservice has secured one of the three Brødrene Aa vessels originally ordered by Norled, strengthening its fleet with a significantly larger sightseeing vessel. The travel company, based in Stranda, will also be looking to expand its workforce to meet the demands of the new addition.
The new flagship, with capacity for 280 passengers, is expected to be ready for service well before the turn of the year. Only minor adjustments and final touches remain before the vessel sets sail. Built by Brødrene Aa, the vessel is fully adapted to meet the latest zero-emission requirements for operations in the UNESCO-listed World Heritage fjords.
Norled cancelled the contracts with Brødrene Aa due to unresolved speed issues and delays to the three ferries intended to be named TYRA, MAGNI and VÅR.
Although Brødrene Aa faced bankruptcy earlier this year, constructive dialogue between all parties ensured a successful solution to complete the delivery.
“This is a major and exciting new investment for us, but also entirely in line with our ambition to remain a leader on the fjord,” said Chairman Leif Magne Klubbenes. “We have emphasised combining both experience and transport – something this vessel has been tailor-made for. Both inside and out, the design is intended to encourage activity while using the natural surroundings as an inspiring backdrop.”
Managing Director Helle Jensen highlighted the broader significance of the acquisition: “Geiranger Fjordservice has for many years delivered strong results and laid the foundation for continued growth through several strategic cooperation agreements, both locally and nationally. Our ability to create year-round jobs in the local community while offering authentic experiences for visitors is perhaps our greatest driving force.”
The design of the new vessel has been carefully developed to provide memorable guest experiences throughout the year, in line with evolving trends in the tourism industry.
