Fred. Olsen Cargo Express Begins Operations To La Palma
Ro-roFred. Olsen Express began operations on 30 July at 4:00 p.m., sailing from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to Santa Cruz de La Palma. The BREÑAS CARGO is the third ro-ro vessel acquired by the company in recent months to guarantee supply and improve the transport of goods within the archipelago.
With the addition of this new vessel, Fred. Olsen Cargo Express now operates three rotations a week between Santa Cruz de La Palma and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, on a six-hour route. Departures from Tenerife are on Mondays and Fridays at 8:00 p.m., and Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. Departures from La Palma are on Tuesdays at 5:00 a.m., and on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11:59 p.m.
The new connection also enables Isla Bonita to be directly linked with Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, as well as with the Spanish mainland via the route to Huelva.
Head of Fred. Olsen Express’ Cargo Department, Jesús Dionis, explained: “The incorporation of the two previous vessels has resulted in a significant increase in the volume of goods transported, confirming that there was a segment of the market previously underserved.”
“The three cargo vessels – BENTAYGA CARGO, BAHÍA CARGO and BREÑAS CARGO – rotate to serve the five islands, alternating the days on which they operate. This means each vessel follows the same routes but on different days, providing companies across the islands with real tools to promote their commercial activity on more distant islands,” he added.
With this new service configuration, Fred. Olsen Cargo Express operates four daily connections between Gran Canaria and Tenerife, one daily connection between Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote from each port, and three weekly connections between Tenerife and La Palma.
