First LBM delivery in Portsmouth to SAINT-MALO
FerryTitan has completed its first delivery of liquefied biomethane (LBM/bioLNG) to Brittany Ferries’ SAINT-MALO during a recent bunkering operation at Portsmouth International Port, using the Optimus bunkering vessel.
The hybrid ferry can operate on LNG, battery power, or a combination of both, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This LBM delivery marks a step toward integrating renewable fuels into regular marine operations.
Under the FuelEU Maritime regulation, LBM enables overcompliance, offering options such as pooling, banking, and borrowing to manage compliance balances across fleets and time periods.
Because LBM is compatible with existing LNG infrastructure, it can be supplied through the same bunkering systems and used by LNG-fuelled vessels without modification. It can also be blended with LNG or e-methane at any ratio, providing flexibility for operators transitioning toward lower-carbon fuels.
