EXPRESS 5 on its way to dock
High-speedBornholm's fast ferry, EXPRESS 5, will sail until midnight on Sunday towards its statutory stay in the dock at Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn. Among other things, a brand-new antifouling paint awaits here, which will save fuel and CO2.
Around midnight on Sunday evening, EXPRESS 5 will leave the port of Rønne and set course for Orskov Yard in Frederikshavn. Here, the fast ferry awaits a three-week stay in the shipyard's dry dock, where several major works await – work of the kind that requires access to the ship below the waterline from the outside.
One of the major tasks is a brand-new silicone antifouling paint, which will reduce water resistance even further, thus helping to save on expensive fuel and save the climate from CO2 emissions.
EXPRESS 1 recently also received new silicone antifouling, and even though the painting work runs into several million kroner for each ferry, even small percentages in reduced fuel consumption will help make it worthwhile in the long run.
Another and very visible change will be that the center bow between the two hulls of EXPRESS 5 will have disappeared when the ferry returns to Rønne. The culprit has never quite worked as intended. The center bow in a new version will return at a later docking.
EXPRESS 5 is expected back in operation in Rønne for the afternoon trips on Thursday 26 March 2026.
