4% more freight but 3% less passengers for Brittany Ferries
FerryLeading French ferry operator Brittany Ferries has just released its passenger and freight carryings for the period between November 2016 and October 2017.
Ferries serving Brittany Ferries' UK-France routes transported 5% less passengers whereas the longer lines to Spain and Ireland, respectively, enjoyed a 5% passenger growth – overall passenger numbers dropped by 3%.
Freight carryings on the Spanish routes soared by 14% whereas a modest 2% growth was noted on the cross-Channel routes – overall freight figures grew by 4%.
Brittany Ferries' financial results have, obviously, been affected by the low Pound Sterling with most of its costs being in Euro, whereas the majority of revenues are in Pound Sterling.
In a press release sent out on 20 October, Brittany Ferries stated that its diversification strategy [to increase passenger and freight capacity on the Spanish routes] is paying off.
