Tallink’s cruise ship BALTIC QUEEN has returned to the Tallinn-Stockholm route
Tallink Grupp’s cruise ship BALTIC QUEEN returned from Gdansk Shipyard, Poland, at the beginning of the week meaning daily ferry service on the Tallinn-Stockholm route has resumed.
Built in 2009, BALTIC QUEEN was transported to the shipyard in Poland for regular maintenance in early January. While the vessel was docked, many of its passenger areas were updated, technical maintenance was performed, and numerous innovative solutions were installed for increasing the ship’s energy efficiency and eco- friendliness.
For example, the café was completely refurbished to introduce the new Fast Lane concept, the Grande Buffet restaurant was renovated, and the ship’s show bar Starlight got a new visual solution and service concept. In addition, carpets were replaced in the vessel’s passenger areas while restaurants, bars, corridors, shops and cabins were updated.
From the technical point of view, a substantial amount of work was performed: main propulsion reduction gears were replaced, and more advanced power transmission equipment with even more functionalities was installed, which will enhance the vessel’s manoeuvring capability and increase performance.
“This time, the six-week docking allowed us to perform a number of planned maintenance works for even greater passenger comfort as well as increased environmental friendliness and economic efficiency of our operations,” captain Tarvi-Carlos Tuulik, Head of Tallink Grupp’s ship operations, said.
“From this week, we welcome all our passengers back onboard the renovated BALTIC QUEEN for an even greater travel experience,” Tuulik added.
Four Grupp’s vessels have already been to planned maintenance at the beginning of the year: the company’s shuttle STAR and cruise ships SILJA SYMPHONY and GALAXY, in addition to BALTIC QUEEN. Next in turn for regular maintenance are cruise ships VICTORIA I (scheduled for March) and ISABELLE (scheduled for March/April). In the past five years, Tallink has invested nearly 80 million euros in its ship renovation programme.
In Early February, Tallink’s subsidiary in Finland held an auction in the Makasiini terminal in Helsinki, where anyone interested could buy the items decommissioned from SILJA SYMPHONY and SILJA SERENADE during the vessels’ recent dockings, including bar and restaurant signs, chairs, paintings and even cabin numbers. The 7,000 euros raised during the auction were donated to the Finnish charity Helsinki Mission, which supports people suffering from loneliness.
