The electric ferry revolution continues in Norway
From January 1st 2018, Norway will get its second electric ferry route. Two new electric ferries have been ordered by Fjord 1 from the Turkish Tersan Shipyard to a Multi Maritime design.
The E39 route between Anda and Lote will need fast charging electrical connections in each port, improved versions of the system employed on the pioneering electric ferry, AMPERE. However, the batteries will have sufficient capacity to allow the ferries to operate for several hours without charging.
An automatic mooring system will eliminate the need for the ferries to continuously run their thrusters. The new double-enders will be 106.2m long by 16.8m wide with a capacity for 120 cars and 349 passengers.
