Rederi AB Fjärdvägen becomes Eckerö Link
Ro-roAfter Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö’s acquisition of Rederi AB Fjärdvägen back in August this year, the new owner is now changing the name of the acquired company to Eckerö Link AB.
“The connection between Åland and mainland Finland has long been the missing link in our offering. Through this name change, we want to clarify that this link is now part of our transport chain,” says Björn Blomqvist, CEO of Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö.
The Eckerö Group now consists of three business areas and brands: Eckerö Linjen, Eckerö Line, and Eckerö Link. Eckerö Group states that with the acquisition, the company has gained a more comprehensive geographical presence - from passenger and freight traffic with Eckerö Linjen and Eckerö Line to the strengthened freight traffic now operated under Eckerö Link.
The new ownership ensures a more stable foundation for the company, points out Jonas Henriksson, CEO of Eckerö Link AB: “The name change is a natural step to clarify the connection to the Eckerö Group and our integrated transport solution. We are pleased that the operation is now part of a larger and stable Åland-based shipping context,” says Jonas Henriksson.
Eckerö Link continues the operation of the Långnäs (Åland)-Nådendal (mainland Finland) route with the 780 lanemetre veteran Ro-Ro FJÄRDVÄGEN, built in 1972. Eckerö Group now owns five ships. Beside FJÄRDVÄGEN, the fleet comprise the RoRo vessel TRANSPORTER (just sold to Godby Shipping and will be handed over 15 Oct) and the RoPax vessels FINBO CARGO, ECKERÖ, and FINLANDIA.
