AIDAPRIMA
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to scale down shipbuilding
YardMHI announced that it will be withdrawing from the money-losing large passenger ship business. This does not come as a surprise after the struggle to build the AIDAprima, which was severely delayed.
The group will instead concentrate on building small and medium-size ro-pax ferries and passenger vessels, in an alliance with three other shipyards: Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Oshima Shipbuilding Co. and Namura Shipbuilding Co.
A final decision will be taken at the end of the fiscal year, which is in March.
