MISTRAL secured on one-year charter to Stena Line
Ro-roGodby Shipping has signed a one-year time charter agreement with Stena Line for the RoRo vessel MISTRAL, with an option allowing Stena Line to extend the charter beyond the initial term.
Ahead of entering service, MISTRAL is scheduled for dry docking at the Remontowa shipyard in Poland in early 2026. Alongside routine maintenance, the vessel will receive a series of energy-efficiency upgrades, including new propeller blades and a redesigned bulb optimized for speeds of 10–14 knots. The company expects these modifications to deliver significant fuel savings. MISTRAL is already equipped with a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD), contributing to its fuel-efficient profile, and the upcoming upgrades are intended to further enhance operational and environmental performance.
Godby Shipping stated that the investment aligns with a wider strategy to meet increasingly stringent environmental regulations. Measures such as the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), and the FuelEU Maritime framework are placing growing pressure on shipping companies to cut emissions. The company emphasized that modernizing existing vessels is key to ensuring long-term compliance, sustaining competitiveness, and providing sustainable transport solutions.
Under the new charter, MISTRAL will operate on Stena Line’s route between Europort Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Harwich in the United Kingdom, supporting a major North Sea trade corridor.
The agreement continues a long-standing cooperation between Godby Shipping and Stena Line, following previous charters involving the vessels MIRANDA (now LAKEWAY EXPRESS), MISIDA (now TRANS HAV) , and MISANA (now TRANS SOL).
MISTRAL is currently on a charter to Lakeway Link that started in November and ends in Jan 2026.
