FRS Helgoline to offer additional trips from Brunsbüttel to Cuxhaven and Heligoland from 3 April 2024

High-speedThe high-speed catamaran HALUNDER JET will enable trips from Brunsbüttel to Cuxhaven and Heligoland from 3 April 2024. FRS Helgoline is expanding its range of departure points towards Helgoland in addition to Hamburg and Lower Saxony to include Schleswig-Holstein. For this purpose, the shipping company acquires the ferry pier in Brunsbüttel.

FRS Helgoline has been transporting passengers to the island of Helgoland for 40 years and is celebrating its anniversary this year. This year, the shipping company based in Flensburg is expanding its offering in addition to Hamburg and Cuxhaven with Brunsbüttel, another departure port. FRS Helgoline managing director Tim Kunstmann says of this development: “We are pleased to be able to offer our passengers, in addition to Hamburg and Lower Saxony, departures towards Helgoland from Schleswig-Holstein. The journey to the deep sea island is significantly reduced from many regions of Schleswig-Holstein and we are opening a new chapter in the 40-year history as FRS Helgoline.”

The crossing time to Helgoland with the HALUNDER JET from Brunsbüttel is approximately two hours. The high-speed catamaran has been docking in the inland port since 2023, so that passengers can spend their time even more effectively thanks to the arrival directly in the center of the island. The regular season of the HALUNDER JET starts on 15 March 2024 with departures from Hamburg and Cuxhaven to Heligoland. The trips from Brunsbüttel will be offered every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from 3 April 2024 to 3 November 2024. Guests also have the option of taking the catamaran to Cuxhaven within 40 minutes, for example for a day trip there for EUR 39.90 per adult.

In order to be able to implement this expansion of the timetable, FRS Helgoline purchased the former Elbferry ferry pier in Brunsbüttel. In the coming weeks this will be modified for catamaran operation, although the actual car ramp will remain fully intact. Negotiations regarding the purchase of the investor had been going on for some time. From discussions about the purchase of individual spare parts, the discussion slowly developed towards the purchase of the entire dock including use of the associated area. “We would like to thank the previous owner for the opportunity to purchase the ferry pier. “Further thanks for supporting this purchase process go to the Kiel Ministry of Economic Affairs, the district administrator of the Dithmarschen district, Stefan Mohrdieck, and the mayor of Brunsbüttel, Martin Schmedtje,” said Kunstmann. In the future, FRS Helgoline's goal is to further develop traffic at the pier in Brunsbüttel and the associated area.
