Electric cars choose the ferry and provide new growth at Molslinjen
High-speedMolslinjen's fast ferries have had a busy first half of 2025. Never before has the shipping company performed six months with so many cars on the car deck. This is shown by a statement of traffic for the first six months of this year. 645,859 cars found their place on the car deck of the fast ferries in the first six months of this year. This is just over 5,000 cars more than the previous record half year in 2022, when 640,333 cars made the trip across the Kattegat.
And the analysis also shows that it is a special kind of car that is helping to drive growth:
"We can see that the proportion of electric cars on the ferries is increasing rapidly. The trip on the ferry clearly removes the well-known range anxiety among electric car owners," says Molslinjen's commercial director, Lucas Kragh.
In July 2025, 436,279 electric cars were registered in Denmark, corresponding to approximately 15 percent of Danish passenger cars.
In June 2025 alone, the share of electric cars on the ferries was as much as 27.7 percent. A strong growth compared to June last year, when the share of electric cars was 17.2 percent. Molslinjen's share of electric cars has generally increased by 10.5 percentage points in the past year.
"This means that electric car owners can see the smart thing in saving on the kilometers driven and save time by not having to charge along the way in a stressful everyday life," says Lucas Kragh.
