Color Group reports increased revenue in 2025, but slight decreases in profitability, passenger and freight volumes
FinanceColor Group AS, the parent company of Color Line, released its 2025 annual report showing total operating income edged up slightly to NOK 6,724 million in 2025 from NOK 6,684 million the previous year. However, EBITDA fell to NOK 1,156 million (from NOK 1,391 million in 2024, which included one-off effects), and operating profit (EBIT) declined to NOK 562 million.
Net profit for the year came in at NOK 160 million, compared to NOK 486 million in 2024. The group cited moderation in passenger and freight demand, inflationary pressures, currency fluctuations, and significant investments in environmental upgrades and digital transformation as key factors.
Color Line carried approximately 3.59 million passengers in 2025, down modestly from 3.68 million in 2024, while freight volumes decreased to 149,548 units from 157,121. The company noted higher yields per passenger helped offset volume softness, particularly with robust northbound traffic. It completed 4,712 sailings across its routes, including the popular Oslo–Kiel overnight cruises and high-speed services to Hirtshals.
Sustainability efforts remained a priority. Scope 1 emissions dropped to 340,093 tCO2e, and fleet CO2 intensity improved to 11.95 gCO2/GT×nm. The group invested in scrubber upgrades, waste systems, and energy-efficiency measures across the fleet, including the hybrid-powered COLOR HYBRID on the Sandefjord–Strömstad route. It also progressed its long-term goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, aligned with EU and IMO standards. Additional highlights included hotel expansion at Color Hotel Skagen and the launch of a new Digital Experience Platform in partnership with Capgemini.
Liquidity remained robust at NOK 2,090 million, with an equity ratio of 21%. The board described the results as “satisfactory” given the challenging environment and expressed confidence in the company’s modern fleet, loyal customer base, and strategic positioning. Outlook for 2026 anticipates results broadly in line with 2025, supported by cost control, hedging, and continued focus on green transition and customer experience.
