CalMac test Islay route relief vessel
Caledonian MacBrayne are currently serving the island of Islay with a single vessel after 550 passenger/84 car ferry HEBRIDEAN ISLES had to be taken off the route following bow damage when making contact with a quay at the mainland port of Kennacraig.
A one ship service has continued with the 550 passenger/84 car FINLAGGAN and to ease congestion during one of the route's busiest periods of the year CalMac are carrying out berthing trials with RED PRINCESS which has no passenger certicicate but can carry up to 20 cars or a number of commercial vehicles.
CalMac say every effort is being made to handle all passengers with FINLAGGAN and when space is full cars can be left in Kennacraig for later transportation with a free transfer for passengers to accommodation in Islay and notification when cars have been shipped.
