A majority in Oslo’s city council backs a new shared international ferry terminal
PortA political majority in Oslo’s city council has agreed that the two international ferry routes from Oslo - Color Line’s route to Kiel and Go Nordic Cruiselines’s route to Copenhagen - should be consolidated into a single shared international ferry terminal.
According to Norwegian media, the political majority now supporting the establishment of “Fjordbyen,” an urban waterfront development project encompassing the areas around the two current ferry terminals, Vippetangen (Go Nordic Cruiseline) and Hjortnes (Color Line), means that shipping activities will no longer be included in the city’s local development plans for these areas.
Instead, as previously reported by Shippax, a new joint terminal for the two ferry operators will be built in the eastern part of the Port of Oslo, at Kongshavn. Color Line holds a lease on its Hjortnes terminal that runs until 2036. As a result, the inauguration of the new shared ferry terminal is also being discussed as a project roughly ten years into the future. At present, however, this is only a political majority within the city council and not yet a formal political decision.
