STENA VINGA to become CORBIÈRE SEAWAYS following Jersey public vote

FerryDFDS has confirmed that STENA VINGA will be renamed CORBIÈRE SEAWAYS, the winning entry in a public naming competition run in Jersey.

DFDS invited islanders to submit names in June, drawing close to 1,000 suggestions. A judging panel comprising All Island Media chief editor Carl Walker, DFDS Jersey route director Chris Parker, and Jersey sailor and Route du Rhum competitor Pamala Lee reduced these to a shortlist of four: Corbière Seaways, Ormer Seaways, Mon Vie Seaways and Vega Seaways. Voting closed on 19 July 2026 with just over 700 votes cast.

DFDS announced in May 2026 that it would acquire the vessel from Stena Line, having chartered her since the Jersey service launched in March 2025. She will be reflagged to the UK register, with DFDS expecting to create 70 new positions including cadets and apprentices. The purchase is due to complete in November 2026, and the ship will continue on the Jersey–UK/France routes.

Built in 2005, the 125 m RoPax has capacity for 400 passengers, 200 cars and 1,500 lane metres of freight, with 40 cabins, a restaurant, duty-free shop, cinema and recliner lounge. She entered service in 2005 as HAMMERODDE for Bornholmstrafikken, later BornholmerFærgen, and was bought by Stena Line in 2017, entering service as STENA VINGA in 2018.
