Tallink Grupp has released its December and Q4 2019 passenger and cargo statistics. The number of passengers and private vehicles kept on growing during the last quarter, yet cargo volumes dropped.

With ever larger ro-ro tonnage becoming available for charter, Stena Line has grasped the opportunity to further increase capacity on the Europoort (Rotterdam)-Killingholme service by chartering Alternative Transport’s 3,663-lanemetre capacity HATCHE and QEZBAN.

Following a four-month period of lay-up, the Siem-owned LEEVSTEN has been chartered by Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (CTN) and has left Nyborg in Denmark for Radès in Tunisia where she is expected to arrive on 10 January.

The Spanish Government has indicated that the Public Service Contracts for the maritime routes linking Melilla on the North African coast with Almeria and Malaga on the Spanish Peninsula, will be offered for a further year. The present contract expires on 30 April 2020.

During the second half of November 2019, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced plans to build two LNG-powered ro-pax ferries at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding for its Ferry Sunflower subsidiary. The two-ship newbuilding contract has now been concluded and the ships’ 199.9m lengths allow them to be built on the slipways of Mitsubishi’s Shimonoseki shipyard.

Wasaline’s newbuild to be named AURORA BOTNIA

Following a naming contest which generated about 2,500 names, Kvarken Link, the City of Vaasa and the Municipality of Umeå controlled company that operates the single-ship Vaasa-Umeå Wasaline service, has selected AURORA BOTNIA as the name of its new 24,300-gross-ton ro-pax ferry that will be delivered by Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) in May 2021.

Carnival Corporation reports Q4 and full year results

Carnival Corporation’s full year results show a revenue increase for the period to USD 20.8 billion, compared to USD 18.9 billion in 2018. US GAAP net income reached USD 3.0 billion, compared to USD 3.2 billion last year.

STENA Line’s newest ferry STENA ESTRID arrived in Holyhead this morning (Monday) after a five-week 10,000 mile journey from the AVIC Weihai Shipyard in north-western China, where she was built.

Helsinki Shipyard Oy has ordered twin Becker Heracles Rudder systems for two luxury cruise expedition newbuildings

The owner, Russia´s largest river cruise company Vodohod International, will operate both vessels with ice class PC6 in high latitude areas in Arctic and Antarctic waters. During Spring and Autumn, the vessels will also operate under tropical conditions.

Exhaust gas cleaning systems have a limited impact on water quality

Ships that use Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems (EGCSs) to comply with the IMO sulphur regulations have a small impact on the water quality in ports, when compared to future EU standards for priority substances in water. This is the main conclusion of a new study carried out by CE Delft, with support from Deltares.

Tallink Grupp to open its first Burger King restaurants in the Rocca al Mare shopping centre and the second one in the Ülemiste shopping centre

Tallink Grupp has announced that it will open the first restaurants of the global fast food chain Burger King at the beginning of the second quarter in 2020 in Tallinn. The first restaurant will be opened in the Rocca al Mare shopping centre and the second one in the Ülemiste shopping centre. Thereafter, the company plans to open restaurants also in large shopping centres in Latvia and Lithuania in 2020.

Changes in Tallink Grupp Sales and Marketing

Tallink Grupp has today announced that the company’s current Group Sales and Marketing Director Margus Hunt has decided to leave his position in the company at the end of this year. Mr Hunt has lead the company’s sales and marketing since 2015 and has decided to take a short break from work and focus on his family and other activities for the time being.

Åland digitalises their passenger information

Recently the Åland Government addressed the need for passenger information and so signed an agreement with Hogia Public Transport Systems to supply a system that will give their passengers on board buses and ferries greatly improved information about their journeys.

Tomas Karlsson has been appointed new CEO of Birka Cruises AB

Tomas Karlsson has worked in the industry since the mid-90s in a variety of roles. Since 2009 he has been a successful CEO of Eckerö Linjen AB, which is a sister company to Birka Cruises AB. During a transition period, Tomas will work in parallel with outgoing CEO Satu Andersson.

Important deal signed for the development of future business

DFDS A/S and Port of Karlshamn signed a long term contract, formalizing a partnership for the next ten years in Karlshamn.
The contract includes mutual commitments enabling a continued development and growth of DFDS ferry traffic on Karlshamn. The port will now launch a number of investments in order to accomodate for larger vessels and volume growth.

HADAG announces details of its fleet renewal program

HADAG, the prime provider of public transport service in the port of Hamburg, announced details of its fleet renewal program and thereby underlines the company‘s clear engagement on environmental sustainability.
