What's the future of LE RIF?
FerryLE RIF, the 1980-built ferry, ex STENA GALLOWAY, is still in Malaga, and has yet to enter the floating-dock. The vessel, previously operated by Moroccan operator IMTC, was bought at auction earlier this year by a new Company, Detroit World Logistic Maritime, who at the time, stated that the vessel would undergo restoration and upgrade at the Malaga Floating-Dock.
Apparently the budget for the work required has increased from the initial €2.5m quoted. The owners are now considering having the work done in an Italian yard.
To date it is not known what the intentions of the owners are, after bringing this 36-year-old ferry back into service. It has been assumed that she will continue to trade between Algeciras and Tangier-Med, but it is not known if DWLM intend to charter her out to a third party or operate her themselves.
