Weymouth ferry port days over?
PortNo ferry facilities are included in development plans for the English South Coast port of Weymouth which boasted passenger and vehicle links with the Channel Islands and Cherbourg, France, from the 1960s and passenger sailings to Jersey and Guernsey dating right back to the 19th century.
At one time Sealink had three ferries running out of Weymouth on summer services but the last recent operator Condor Ferries left to concentrate operations on Poole during 2015 and nothing came of plans by new company High Speed Ferries to launch a fast passenger/car service to and from Cherbourg.
Now a case is being made to build a leisure park with all-weather visitor attractions on the peninsula site including the ferry berths as part of a local authority regeneration plan with Councilors urged to back a 'leisure destination' scheme for the prominent waterside area - but without facilities for ferries.
