New passenger facilities ahead of electric high-speed ferry introduction on Kattegat
PortMolslinjen is modernising its ferry terminal at the eastern end of its Kattegat route. The route, which will receive three new fully electric, 1,500-passenger high-speed catamarans from Incat by 2029, connects Aarhus, Denmark’s second-largest city, with Sjællands Odde in north-western Zealand.
While Molslinjen’s terminal in Aarhus opened in 2020, its terminal at Sjællands Odde dates to the route’s establishment in 1965. The operator has now signed a contract with Danish contractor HSM Industri for the construction of new passenger facilities.
The contract covers a complete passenger boarding system, with HSM Industri responsible for its design, manufacture, delivery and installation. The scope includes a boarding tower with stairs and a lift, a skywalk, a passenger boarding pier, telescopic gangways, and hydraulic and control systems. The entire installation is expected to be completed in 2028.
As part of preparations for the introduction of the record-breaking electric high-speed ferries, Molslinjen is also installing 118 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS) at both terminals, supplied by BOS Power.
