Turkey’s Cemre Shipyard lays the keel of Torghatten Nord’s zero emission battery ferry HINNØY
FerryTurkey’s ferry shipbuilding specialist Cemre Shipyard laid the keel of NB 1091, a zero emission, battery operated ferry for Norway’s Torghatten Nord AS.
Designed by The Norwegian Ship Design Company, HINNØY when delivered in February 2024, the 117m double-ender will be able to carry 399 passengers on the route Bognes-Lødingen, in northern Norway, making the crossing in just one hour, at a speed of 13-14 knots.
It is planned that all operations of the new ferry will come from power supplied from Norway's National Grid ashore, through high-capacity automatic charging connections at both terminals. In the case shore power is unavailable, biodiesel generators will provide power for the operation of HINNØY.
HINNØY will feature two completely independent propulsion and power systems arranged in a way that after any single fault, such as fire or flooding, a minimum of one of these systems remains operational.
