Fatal ferry fire in the Philippines
FerryAt least five people have been confirmed dead, while a further 87 remain missing following a ferry fire in the Philippines on 9 September. The small vehicle and passenger ferry JUNE ASTER was sailing from the capital Manila to Palawan Province with 117 passengers and 17 crew members when a fire broke out on board at around 18:00 local time.
There have so far been no reports concerning the cause of the fire. JUNE ASTER is owned and operated by Philippine ferry operator Atienza Interisland Ferries, which has a fleet of nine ferries primarily linking Manila with the tourist destination of Coron in the island province of Palawan.
