TT-Line signs firm contract with Jinling Shipyard for next-generation RoPax vessel
FerryTT-Line has signed a contract for the construction of a new LNG-hybrid RoPax vessel with the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard. The new vessel will be approximately 240 metres long and designed to accommodate around 1,000 passengers.
“With this project, we are continuing our strategy to provide state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly and efficient transport solutions for our customers and thereby maintaining TT-Line's market-leading position on the Baltic Sea,” says Bernhard Termühlen, CEO of TT-Line. The new vessel will feature an enhanced level of passenger comfort, improved cabin types and newly designed spacious outdoor areas.
Building on the success of TT-Line’s LNG-powered ferries NILS HOLGERSSON and PETER PAN, which were delivered in 2022, this next-generation vessel will feature an advanced LNG-hybrid propulsion system.
The project is part of TT-Line’s long-standing cooperation with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, which began in 2018. The collaboration ensures that the new vessel will meet the highest standards of sustainability, safety, and performance tailored to the European market.
The proven reliability of NILS HOLGERSSON and PETER PAN on TT-Line’s routes between Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and Sweden provides a strong foundation for this next step. The new vessel will incorporate technical upgrades and optimized design to increase operational and environmental efficiency.
“Extending TT-Line's existing zero-emission bio-LNG capabilities by further adding a zero-emission shore-power-fed battery component underlines TT-Line's ambition to remain at the forefront of sustainable zero-emission technologies,” says Andreas Schärli, COO of TT-Line.
When the LOI between TT-Line and Jinling was signed in October this year, it stipulated an option for a second vessel.
