The completion of the transaction marks an important milestone in Stena Line’s long-term commitment to trade development and resilience in the Baltic Sea region. Liepaja is Latvia’s third-largest port and plays a key role in regional and international supply chains. Stena Line currently operates the Liepaja, Latvia –Travemünde, Germany route with two vessels.

“The deal has now been closed, and we are officially the owner of the terminal operations in Liepaja, which now also changes its name to Stena Line Ports Liepajas SEZ. This is a logical next step in our development in the Baltics and reflects our strong belief in the Baltic region and its long-term trade potential,” says Liene Lemane, Trade Director for the Baltic Sea North at Stena Line.

Stena Line plans to gradually develop and modernise the terminal and its infrastructure, with a strong focus on safety, security, customer experience and efficient traffic management within the terminal area.

“Miracles don’t happen overnight. Development takes time, and step by step we will improve the terminal in Liepaja while continue ensuring stable and reliable operations for our customers,” Liene Lemane continues. “We have already gone through a similar journey in Ventspils, which we acquired nearly three years ago and successfully integrated into our system. Liepaja will follow a similar path.”

In parallel with Stena Line’s long-term development plans, the Liepaja Special Economic Zone Authority will carry out construction works to rebuild berth 46 in Liepaja Port. The project is scheduled for completion by 31 December 2027 and will further strengthen the port’s infrastructure and capacity.

The acquisition strengthens Stena Line’s Baltic Sea network, which already includes port operations in Ventspils and Karlskrona, as well as ferry routes connecting Latvia, Sweden, Germany and Poland.
