SNAV SARDEGNA breaks down
FerrySpanish media have reported a technical breakdown of the GNV ferry SNAV SARDEGNA.
The vessel had been sailing from Tanger Med to Genoa via Barcelona in the afternoon of September 6 when she suffered a total engine breakdown, forcing the ship to call for tug assistance. SNAV SARDEGNA finally reached the nearby port of Cartagena on her own reduced power on September 7 with a load of 800 passengers and 250 vehicles.
Several passengers were reported to refuse getting off the ship in Cartagena unless they got reimbursed by GNV. Being Moroccan citizens on their transit to Italy, many of them did not even possess a title to enter Spanish territory when arriving in Cartagena.
SNAV SARDEGNA, originally built in 1989 as the OLAU HOLLANDIA, remains idle at the port of Cartagena for the time being, awaiting repairs.
