New Sorrento Ferry Terminal opened for Searoad Ferries
PortAfter 10 years of planning and a AUD 25 million private investment, Searoad Ferries opened its new Sorrento Ferry Terminal on 6 March 2026.
Constructed entirely on pylons over Port Phillip Bay, the landmark terminal is one of Australia’s only permanent buildings built fully over water. Designed by F2Architect and delivered by Maben Group, the project reimagines the ferry experience between the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas.
The new terminal features:
• A glass observatory floor overlooking the water beneath the building
• A sculptural spiral staircase
• Fully accessible marine-engineered gangways connecting the terminal to the ferries when in berth
• Waterfront Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, ONDA, opening mid-March
Entirely self-funded and delivered in partnership with Victorian builders, engineers and suppliers, the development reflects Searoad Ferries’ long-term commitment to regional investment, job creation and providing a smarter alternative to road congestion.
Searoad Ferries said, “More than a transport hub, this development redefines the journey between the Mornington and Bellarine Peninsulas, offering a genuine alternative to road congestion and transforming the ferry experience into a destination in its own right”.
