Molslinjen’s Electric Ferry NERTHUS Arrives in Kalundborg
FerryMolslinjen's electric ferry, NERTHUS, completed an almost three-week long voyage home from the shipyard in Turkey. In beautiful Danish summer weather, the ferry docked in Kalundborg, where an intense program now begins to get the ferry ready for operation on 16 June.
The first of Molslinjen's two new electric ferries, NERTHUS, glided quietly into the quay in Kalundborg Harbour in the morning of the 3rd of June at 08.00. After an almost three-week journey from the shipyard Cemre Shipyard in Turkey, the ferry must now be quickly prepared for the important summer traffic on the route between Ballen on Samsø and Kalundborg.
NERTHUS was actually built for Alslinjen between Bøjden and Fynshav, but as the sister ship TYRFING is also delayed at the Turkish shipyard, Molslinjen has made a ferry reshuffle that sends NERTHUS to Samsølinjen.
"The traffic on Samsølinjen increases a lot in the summer, so we and Samsø need the capacity that a new and larger electric ferry brings, and then we have other ferries that take care of the traffic on the slightly less summer-exposed route between Als and Funen," explains Molslinjen's CEO, Kristian Durhuus.
For the employees around NERTHUS, an intensive process is now beginning. The ferry must be prepared for sailing in Denmark, the crews must be trained, and all the statutory inspections and exercises must be carried out so that the authorities can send NERTHUS out into the waters between Ballen and Kalundborg.
The new electric ferry is expected to make its first electric trip on the first morning departure from Ballen on Monday 16 June 2025.
